Dave Shafran - Vocalist

about me

I was born and raised in LA, bought a one-way ticket to Mississippi at the age of 19 and spent the next 3 years playing blues on the street in Mississippi and Louisiana for change. During this time I lived in basements, under stairwells, and sometimes on the sidewalk. I also performed in rural juke joints in the Delta and bars in the French Quarter of New Orleans. Upon my return to LA, I formed The Downbeats with harmonica wizard Mad Dog Moore, an eclectic group not afraid to mix blues with punk and performance art and played all of LA's famous clubs in the late 80's and early 90's. Coming out of this group, I joined the RedHot Blues and was their lead singer for 14 years. RedHot Blues toured the US as well as internationally over the course of their career, and released four albums including a live album. My vocal influences include Paul Rodgers, Ray Charles, Greg Allman and Delbert McClinton.
I currently travel and perform as a solo artist or fronting local house bands. I am available for contracts ranging from one to six months internationally. Please also visit my listing on Musician’s Contact here.
